We need your help standing up to book bans! NYPL is calling readers all over the country to join a national Day of Action on Oct 19. Ahead of the election, libraries nationwide will be hosting rallies in person and online to champion your #FreedomToRead. on.nypl.org/3XUzKLH

If your family members or friends need to be rescued, the volunteers for the Cajun Navy are in Asheville, N.C. They show up in the aftermath of hurricanes. I saw them in Port Arthur and Houston, Texas and Lake Charles, La. Here is their Facebook page: facebook.com/story.php?stor…

People don't pay attention if it doesn't affect them. People just now learning that communications disappear after a hurricane is proof. There have been plenty of hurricanes for people to learn from, but unless they're the one making desperate calls, they don't care.

Millennials grew up loving books because the culture made an effort to make books seem cool. Celebrities read books. The baddies in films quoted Shakespeare. Every Sunday night there was a new miniseries of Jules Verne or Lewis Carroll. Bring back reading culture.

I better not see a single "liberal" person imply that anyone in Florida deserves what's about to happen. Fighting for infrastructure, government services, and climate justice for all, means you're fighting for ALL. Nobody deserves to lose everything like this.

I know a lot’s going on but Texas is going to execute a guy on Thursday who is 100% innocent. The lead detective in his case says he’s innocent. Rs and Ds who never agree on anything say he’s innocent. But we’re still going to kill him just because we have it on the calendar.

One reason you believe people are “crazy” for taking COVID precautions is because you don’t know how sick people are treated by society and the medical system. You think nothing bad will happen to you and you’ll be taken care of by medical professionals but you’re mistaken.

#Pain patients have been warning people for a decade that the #opioid hysteria would come for them. No one listened, and now even cancer patients can't get pain relief anymore.

If you're an (overweight) woman you probably got this diagnosis: You're an aging, obese, hysterical, anxiety ridden complainer. Treatment recommendation? Exercise, lose weight, learn to accept your pain, let things go, and be more positive and understanding of those around you.

Saw a video of a European American nurse bragging about denying Sickle Cell patients, who are having crises episodes, pain medication. Her comments were also of other white nurses boasting about doing the same. Medical racism is so sinister and murderous.

My civics teacher had us write a position paper on the big issues of the day (ie abortion, capital punishment etc.) After we turned our papers in our next assingment was to write about the issue from the opposite side. I'll never forget it. I changed my position on abortion.

A good rule of thumb when evaluating a person or group is to ask yourself “will they encourage or seek to limit my access to reading?” Anyone who tries to restrict what you read—and this happens more often than you would imagine—is dangerous and should be avoided.

This is Céline Haidar, a Lebanese national team footballer. Céline now lies in intensive care, critically injured after being struck in the head by Israeli shrapnel in Beirut. If she were Ukrainian, her story would be everywhere. But because she’s Lebanese, the world is silent.

#Emergency room doctors are often reluctant to give opioids to someone in pain because of fear the meds might lead to #addiction. But a new study found that long-term use of opioids after getting them in the ER is "extremely unlikely." #cpp #chronicpain bit.ly/491tfL8

Routine reminder that a whole lot of disabled people can't just move to a different country. America isn't the only country that hates and has policies against us becoming citizens.
