In collaboration with Jorge Galán's group Yale University, we provide major insight into the structure and assembly of the type III secretion injectisomes and suggest a pathway for the type III secreted substrates to cross the bacterial membrane: pnas.org/content/early/… #cryoEM #cryoET

Many bacteria use type IV secretion systems to translocate substrates into target cells. Raphael (Donghyun) Park's work present a model for how the apparatus is assembled and for how this machine may initiate the transport of substrates across the inner membrane. mbio.asm.org/content/11/1/e…

Since everyone is talking about #nCoV19 #nCoV2019 #COVID2019 #SARSCoV2, I though I would look at some of the cryo-EM structures (since that's what I do :). I made an animation comparing the recent maps from The Veesler Lab, also aligning an X-ray map of the receptor

The bacterial flagellar motor is a remarkable nanomachine that can rapidly rotate in both counter-clockwise and clockwise senses. Check our recent work Yunjie Chang about how CheY-P controls the flagellar motor rotational switch: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… #cryoEM #teamtomo

Wow! Cold FEG + Falcon 4 + RELION = 1.22 Å of apoferritin. Great for #CFAR, but what's more impressive is the reconstruction of β3 GABAA receptor with regions resolved to ~1.6 Å! Congrats Sjors Scheres & colleagues! What a day for the #cryoEM community biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
