Danville Adult Detention gave .Averett University sociology and criminal justice students a tour of the center this morning. Seeing the everyday operations of Adult Detention gave students an opportunity to experience what they're learning in the classroom.

PLAN AHEAD: Our offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 17, for George Washington Day. The public library and courthouse also will be closed. However, Danville Transit will operate as usual, and we will collect trash and yard waste on Monday – no change in schedule for the holiday.

DETOUR SCHEDULED: We will close Colquhoun Street at Craghead Street from 7 a.m. Monday to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday for installation of a new sewer line to the development under construction at 539 Craghead St. Traffic on Craghead Street should use Newton Street to reach Bridge Street.

We will begin a water line replacement project on North Main St. from Third Ave. to Meadowbrook Dr. starting Monday, March 10. The project is expected to be completed around July 8. Construction will take place 7:30 am-4 pm, Monday-Friday, with potential extended hours at times.

We honored five teenagers recently for completing life skills training and goal-setting exercises through the City of Danville’s Project Imagine program. The graduates are Sariya Crews, Amari Davis (not pictured), Zy'Quale Dorty, Khiylan Stamps, and Corithian Tarpley.
