We found that synthetic folic acid (as used in supplements) chiefly gets into C. elegans via bacteria. In this review Claire Maynard compares with work on iron and vitamin B12 and looks for implications for supplementation. genesandnutrition.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…

One thing about exponentials is that we are bad at reasoning about them. They seem very slow until they seem very, very fast

Wise words about the importance of taking solid measures to address intersectionality in the #covid19 response- we need more than deep breathing!

Did you know that Tuberculosis kills an estimated 4,000 people EACH DAY, with a disproportionate burden in the world’s poorest countries and communities. Unlike #COVID19, TB is preventable and curable. Extra action needed this #WorldTBDay to reduce #TB #COVID19 comorbidity #EndTB

At this stage of the epidemic we need everyone to stay at home except in specific circumstances. The NHS depends on us making it difficult for the virus to spread. We all need to make changes. This will be very disruptive but it is essential to keep the community safe.

"#COVID-19 gives the lie to #globalhealth expertise." I did not see this before publication. This is the best thing I've read all week. #mustread #inequalities #power THANK YOU Sarah Dalglish @sarahdlish.bsky.social thelancet.com/journals/lance…

I've got a better idea than Matt Hancock. Just this once, let's give care workers bonuses worth several times their annual salary, and reward investment bankers with a nice shiny badge instead.

I am looking for a PhD student to join my group at Durham University to study "environmental regulation of cell-fate transitions and their potential application for crop improvement". Please RT. Thanks findaphd.com/phds/project/u…

Inequalities in mortality from #COVID19 - the social gradient - are similar to inequalities in mortality from all causes, suggesting that the the general causes of health inequalities as laid out in #Marmot2020 apply to COVID19 plus some extra in more deprived areas.

Austerity was dramatically regressive. In #Marmot2020 we did the analysis by deprivation. The most deprived 20% of local authorities had a 32% reduction in spending. The least deprived 20% had a 16% reduction. We went into the pandemic I’ll-prepared. theguardian.com/business/2020/…

Over the last weeks, a substantial amount of new evidence has become available about immunity to #SARSCoV2. This information can be difficult to process and integrate. As such I felt it may be helpful to write a thread to summarise the information and provide some context. (1/13)

Producing food is responsible for over one third of global emissions - it needs to be on world leaders’ climate agendas. Will Rt Hon Lord Alok Sharma lead the charge at #COP26? bit.ly/30vOiCW

There's a huge amount of variation across the country with urgent care services. How might the 2hr #UCR service address this? Was great to work w/ Strategy Unit and IpsosUK on this #evaluation for NHS England. Thanks to all the busy #NHS HCPs who spoke with us!
