How can we model something as complex as the microbiome in noisy ecological contexts? Out now in EIC Jack Gilbert, our primer on mixed model approaches for characterising drivers of gut microbiome dynamics in wild animals! bit.ly/3Y6ZzXt

If I've taught my interns anything, it's the fundamental need to reward yourself for every work task you complete by getting yourself a little treat. Today my intern Yanileth F. López-Tacoaman informed me that we need to get a pre- and post-work treat because it's Friday #proudmentor

It’s #InternationalRedPandaDay … And just some good news on an upcoming paper with Dr. Candace Williams featuring these little guys and their microbes! What a nice coincidence

The The New York Times will accept heptane but not naphthalene in the spelling bee? RIP to my pangram

Loading a Oxford Nanopore flow cell with some lizard samples with Dr. Candace Williams! Let’s see what we get!

Candace Williams just gave a great talk about microbiomes and phytoestrogens in rhinos. 🦏🦠 Dr. Candace Williams

I’m so excited to announce that I’ll be a Smithsonian predoctoral fellow Smithsonian Panama starting this summer! Panama’s been my home away from home since I was a baby intern in 2019. A few weeks til I’m back again catching zards and prepping sequencing libraries!

The team took a quick break from field work to present at the #BCI100 symposium! Smithsonian Panama

Presented some ongoing research at the #BCI100 conference today! A culmination of nine months with @gsscholars at Smithsonian Panama. Only one month left to catch 'zards, deploy clay models, and sequence some samples 😢🦎.

Had a great time at #ISME19 talking about my work in tropical lizards Smithsonian Panama Thanks to everyone who came by and gave me valuable input!!! Off to Kruger!! 🐘🦁🦓

New review out in Functional Ecology ! We explore how omics tools could be used to understand microbiome function in wild systems and highlight key outstanding questions.
