Seaweed collections for a new experiment looking at the effects of #ArtificialLightatNight and #Warming on macroalgae at @SydneyMarine 😄🧜‍♀️🌱

Milly Caley (UNSW) & her team are currently running an experiment at SIMS to investigate the effect of Artificial Light At Night (ALAN) on the health & functioning of two local seaweeds, Ecklonia radiata & Sargassum, to inform management strategies on this global stressor. 🌎 ⏰

With ocean warming & marine heatwaves increasing, seaweed populations like crayweed are at risk. Catalina Musrri, a PhD candidate at USyd, aims to find the genotypes that are best adapted to temperature by comparing the responses of Sydney populations to heat stress at SIMS 🌱

This is my first first-author publication, and one I am super excited to share! Here, we manipulated artificial light and temperature to investigate impacts on sea urchin grazing and growth rates, with @CariocaMayer Byrne lab @ZiggyMarzinelli royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…
