my reflections on equity. equitable mental health support is more than providing appropriate, adapted therapy to all who need it; it requires a social justice approach, too.

'diversity' training vs. anti-racism work. not in reference to some of the fantastic anti-racism teaching and training put on by knowledgeable and passionate experts. this is refering to online training modules that seem to form the bulk of anti-racism work in some services.

thinking about how powerful starting to recognise strengths can be in the formulation process. there's often lots of qualities already in bloom 🌸

this placement in older adult inpatient services has been a lot of therapeutic working and v diff from my previous inpatient role. I've had lots of thoughts about what an effort that is for people in hospital. engaging in therapy at this time isn't for everyone; and that's okay.

I drew this when thinking about how I want to embody social justice work in my capacity as a trainee clin psych. working therapeutically on placement is great, but I'm always holding in mind the wider context and what I can do to facilitate systems and policy change.

saw this quote and thought about how a safe therapeutic space can break down the burden of shame. as a trainee, I've also noticed that a safe supervision space frees me from the shame I might experience from the mistakes I've made or things I've forgotten.

I've enjoyed learning about CAT on this placement and collaborating with clients on maps of reciprocal roles. this drawing is a v simplified version of the concept, but I always find seeing a map is much more useful to bring the patterns to life.

I drew out some window of tolerance graphics as I've been using this so much on my placement. it's been such a helpful part of psychoeducation that can be used collaboratively and compassionately

being able to illustrate this important work was so fun. disseminating research can be creative, too!

we got to revisit the tree of life this week and I was reminded how much I love it. I've only ever used this in a group setting, so hoping to use this more on an individual level over second year placements. version of this available to download if helpful for your work!
