Alpine dairy farm in Slovenia. 20 cows from 8 different farms sent up the mountain to graze on 'communal pastures' for summer. Each cows yield is recorded to work out what each farmer gets paid. Herdsman looks after animals and makes the (very tasty) cheese 🧀

How they made hay in Slovenia back in the day. Wooden hayracks called kozolec. Dotted all around the countryside

First day on the alpine meadows for these cows and calves. Left the home farm in the valley at 2am and took 5hrs to get up the mountain. One person walks in front with a light and the cows follow. These pastures are 5000ft above sea level (1600ft higher than Carrantuohill)

Great day at the annual Grassland 2.0 team meeting this week. Some exciting new decision support tools being developed to promote use of grasslands in the US. Very impressive work on outreach and curriculum development also 🌱 Thank you for the invite folks!
