friendly reminder (at me) that writing poetry is the fun part. anything else (pubs, books, notoriety, etc) is like nice and good and all...but I write poetry because the actual writing part makes me feel human.

“Because poetry must use language, which is inherently opaque and unstable, it has to be more precise than mathematics. For poets, there is no higher morality than precision.” -- Lee Seong-bok

No such comment from my former department regarding our student Yunseo Chung, who is currently being targeted by ICE. We're happy to use Edward Said for the sake of branding but seem eager to forget both his work and why he was the only one whose office had bulletproof glass.

I have a poem from my forthcoming collection with Trio House Press in the new issue of South Dakota Review! Big-hearted thanks to Lee Horikoshi Roripaugh for including me! A stellar issue, friends, on Day 16 of National Poetry Month! (Oh! & I love this poem’s little nod to Bhanu Kapil!)

Feels like a good day for an excerpt from my review of THESE STRANGE BODIES by court (ELJ Editions: 2024), published in Variant Literature's Variety Pack section earlier this year
