Huser et al. (2022), incl. NWF co-I Dr. Culp, characterized freshwater chemistry across the circumpolar region. They observed: ➡️lower C and nutrient levels in ⬆️vs⬇️latitudes ➡️higher nutrient levels in systems impacted by permafrost thaw slumps ➡️& more: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/fw…

Sampling has started in the Mackenzie Delta Lakes, we aim to collect short sediment cores to look at biogeochemical processes over the last 100 years Swiss Polar Institute @swisspolar.bsky.social

Lastly, Thomas Bossé-Demers records water column chemistry and collects pore-water for methane, anions/cations, DIC, DOC and rare elements Swiss Polar Institute @swisspolar.bsky.social @ETH_ERDW RM Couture

More nice work from our doctoral researcher Soila Silvonen into the workings of the #lakerestoration pilot at Kymijärvi, #Lahti. We used #XANES to show how our filtration system captures #phosphorus into oxide minerals. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…. Internal P loading in eutrophied lakes can be remediated with Phoslock, meant to suppress the redox-dependent cycling of P in sediment. We model how dissolved organic carbon interferes with this in our new paper published in Environmental Science Journals of the RSC pubs.rsc.org/en/content/art… Wessam Neweshy

1st meeting of our PERMAMERC project. 30 people attended the meeting at Instituto Superior Técnico including MSc and PhD’s. Scientific discussions about Hg dynamics in permafrost. Now another year of field and lab work in the Arctic. Centro de Química Estrutural Centro de Estudos Geográficos CIIMAR-UP CentreEtudesNord Trent University

One of my favorite things we do at Environmental Science Journals of the RSC #ESPI is the Emerging Investigators Series. We have interviews with each EI, and I thought I would do a thread on the 18 from May 2019 - Nov 2022. (I did a similar thread in early 2019 and haven't followed up since then) THREAD 👇
