Peter Romanek introduces new Estonian Sign Language launch 21st International Congress of Linguists MEDAL @medallinguist.bsky.social

Deaf Studies, Sign Languages & Interpreting Berlin was honored to be a part of the Council of Europe event on CEFR CV in International SL version (rm.coe.int/cefr-cv-2020-i…) today. It was successful in many ways: promotion linguistic & cultural diversity and professionalization of sign language teaching / assessment in Europe. (1)

Partners (including European Union of the Deaf ENSLT efsli) & European institutions (including ECMLand its Council of Europe) play a key role in raising awareness of sign languages as a part of Europe's linguistic-cultural heritage - thank you! We look forward to continuing the collaboration. (3)

Peter Romanek Romanek Péter Zalán (one of the PhD students at Deaf Studies, Sign Languages & Interpreting Berlin) recently gave a presentation at 21st International Congress of Linguists on issues of grammar description in sign language research. The issues are based on interviews with 12 deaf sign language researchers from around the world & EVKUR - Estonian Sign Language Research Lab.

Together with Ronice Quadros, Christian Rathmann presented first results on phonological, lexical and morphological variability and stabilization of lexical items in International SL at 21st International Congress of Linguists. They are based on short texts signed by 17 signers from different countries around the world.

The multi-funded project "Deaf access by Deaf people - Deaf mediators, interpreters and translators" will commence in February 2024 & led by Christian Rathmann (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin), Jérémie Segouat (CNRS 🌍) and @drcastone (University of Wolverhampton). WASLI efsli efsliDI
