For the first piece on the free The CricViz Analyst Substack, I got stuck into Kagiso Rabada v Pat Cummins. One has 327 wickets at 22.00, the other 294 at 22.43. One's a line-and-length freak, one's a wicket-hunting strike rate gun. So who's better? cricvizanalyst.substack.com/p/pat-cummins-…

Jasprit Bumrah is the best quick of this generation, but Kagiso Rabada and Pat Cummins aren't far behind. Wrote something for the The CricViz Analyst on the two attack leaders this week at Lord's for the #WTCFinal. ✍️cricvizanalyst.substack.com/p/pat-cummins-…

Brilliant display of bowling yesterday. xAverage of the balls bowled was 23.4 - since records began, only one opening day of a Test in England had a lower xA (a higher quality of bowling). That was Southampton 2018 when Bumrah, Ashwin, Shami and Ishant bowled ENG out for 246.

Shubman Gill averages 25 outside of Asia, 17 against swing, and 9 against good lengths. #ENGvIND may be his first series as captain, but it's a huge test for him to make it a success as a batter. I took a look on The CricViz Analyst at how he can do it. 📝cricvizanalyst.substack.com/p/can-shubman-…

Wrote something on The CricViz Analyst around Shubman Gill's series as a batter. Hasn't nailed it outside of Asia, but there are a few players - Kohli and Sangakkara among them - who have provided a template for how to adapt to English conditions. #ENGvIND cricvizanalyst.substack.com/p/can-shubman-…

For England's seamers on Day 1, just 29% of their bowling was on a good line and length - only once in the last 10 years have they recorded a lower figure at the start of a home Test. #ENGvIND

Ben Duckett scored 31 of his runs with the reverse sweep - only one Test innings since records began in 2006 has included more runs from the stroke. That was Usman Khawaja at Galle earlier this year, who scored 46 runs with the shot. #ENGvIND

Since the start of 2022, Zak Crawley is averaging just 21 when seamers pitch the ball up to him in Test cricket. No batter to face 100 full deliveries in that time averages less than England's opening batter.

Washington Sundar's ball to dismiss Ben Stokes at Edgbaston drifted 5.3°. No wicket-ball by a spinner in England has moved that much since records began in 2006. Only six wicket-balls *anywhere* have drifted more in that time.

KL Rahul has batted with exceptional control this series, with just 12% of the balls bowled to him bringing a false shot. The last time an Indian opener faced this many balls in an overseas series, with better control, was Gautam Gambhir v NZ in 2009 (10% false shots). #ENGvIND
