Mass immigration is apparently preventing you from becoming a feminine antihero with three husbands who systematically alienates every single friend and family member.

The Division of the Arts & Humanities is considering consolidating its 15 departments into eight, reducing language instruction, and establishing minimum class and program sizes, citing new federal policies and shifts in the “underlying financial models” for higher education.

Thinking that LLM-ish AIs could soon lead our science and philosophy and art is tied to thinking we already reached the end of science and philosophy and art anyway. Nobody thinks an LLM-ish AI trained only on variations on 17th century texts could get us to 21st century civ

When I was in college a guy in my dorm flunked out of school because he accidentally registered for five extra classes in one semester that he never attended. He continued to live in the dorm for the rest of the year and people just hid keys for him under bushes and stuff.

There will assuredly be huge political pressure to "save AI" and modify copyright law if this wins at trial. But I would suggest that bankrupting LLM companies is the best thing that could happen to spur innovation into developing actually useful AI.

My students are now becoming openly upset with me for upholding my AI policy because “none of my other professors care.” This demonstrates the importance of both faculty solidarity and administrative support, but those are both pipe dreams.

I grew up hearing over & over that Mary would have been a young teenager when Jesus was born. Except the evidence for age of first marriage for 1st c. Jewish women is significantly higher. Polygamy drives down age of first marriage into the preteen years, not premodern society.

It's interesting. Why has this never been a popular topic in American filmmaking? I suspect it's because national mythology doesn't make for good filmmaking. American revolution films would be received like Bible movies: either hackneyed and predictable or blasphemous.

It's amazing how many people's understanding of the formation of Israel is "the Allied powers moved all the Jews of Europe to Palestine" rather than "the Jews already in Palestine in 1939 were the ones still left alive in 1945."
