Better than Photoshop - a framework for image up-sampling that embeds new (but true) information by fusing “single sample” data from two different image modalities. Here demonstrated for megapixel fluorescence lifetime imaging science.org/doi/full/10.11…

In 1971 Zel’dovich proposed that a rotating metallic device or absorbing cylinder will amplify light with angular momentum if the cylinder rotates faster than the light oscillation frequency. That condition made it impossible to see…until today rdcu.be/dL5K7

Brain-computer-interfaces for neuromorphic computing. Multiplexing 100s of frequencies, a simple LED and a single-electrode EEG at the visual cortex can perform classification tasks. Concatenating brains (multilayer network) shows improved performance. nature.com/articles/s4146…

Caught the tail end of a very brief aurora yesterday evening from Glasgow hills. Just about visible by eye but phone cameras are remarkably good.

In shocked awe of the insane SpaceX achievement…engineering at its best. Total admiration for the team effort needed to pull this off

Pixelsmith is a new method to generate any-resolution (> 1024x1024) images using diffusion models! They upsample images to the desired resolution, add noise, and slowly denoise it with a patch-based guidance. It works on a single GPU! thanos-db.github.io/Pixelsmith/

Diffusion as a confinement mechanism, can guide light around bends and with 10-100x higher transmission through completely opaque materials. Works also for heat and neutrons! Great work with Kevin Mitchell, Extreme Light, UofG PhysAstro nature.com/articles/s4156…

A beautifully exposed thought-scape and approach to the science of consciousness, defending the right for theories, including IIT, to exist. Lessons to be learnt and applied across all of science, thank you Anil Seth Àlex Gómez-Marín nature.com/articles/s4159…

Can you rejuvenate an old brain by giving it young immune cells? 🧠 My lab Calico put it to the test. In our new study, we replaced the brain's immune cells in old mice with young ones. The result? The old brain environment forced the young cells to age RAPIDLY. A 🧵👇
