Men want to spend time with their babies, and in the case of a difficult birth or for those whose children are premature, the current standard fortnight of paternity leave is especially inadequate. The low rates of paternity leave pay also put it out of reach of some families.1/2

Throwback to last month’s write up of our stunt covered in British GQ by Sam Parker We’re shining a light on paternity leave in the UK. It’s the worst in Europe and needs to change. Longer and affordable leave is better for dads, mums and kids. gq-magazine.co.uk/article/uk-pat…

It’s great that more dads qualify for paternity leave, but it still remains unaffordable for many. Dads and co-parents get just two weeks paid at Ā£184.03 per week. This is 50% of weekly pay on minimum wage. The maths don’t add up.

Two weeks is enough time for a holiday. Two weeks is enough time to read a book or two. Two weeks is enough time to binge watch a series on Netflix. Two weeks is not enough time for paternity leave, to start forming a bond with your child and supporting your partner.

Paternity policy should support dads and co-parents to be equal partners when it comes to raising children. But rather than supporting, current policy is holding parents back; whether in parliament or elsewhere. Thanks Josh Simons MP for speaking out. politicshome.com/news/article/l…

In 2022 Finland reformed parental leave to give both parents 160 days of paid leave to use before their child turns two. In the UK dads and co-parents get just two weeks paid at half the minimum wage. theguardian.com/world/2024/nov…

Your words are right on the money Maya Ellis MP ā˜€ļø. Better paternity leave isn't just good for dads and kids, but mums too. It's time the UK catches up and makes paternity leave work for families. lep.co.uk/news/new-ribbl…

Gender inequality is bad for everyone, and parenting seems to me to be one of the most obvious places this manifests. Enjoyed talking to Alex from The Dad Shift for our #IMD24 series.

Ten years on from the introduction of shared parental leave, the policy has completely failed working families. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

10 years ago, the government introduced shared parental leave. It was hoped this would allow dads to play a more prominent role in fatherhood. But new analysis shows it's a scheme which is "completely broken" and "failing working families". Full story: bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
