Well today - 16th July 2024 - formally marks the end of AFL as we all once knew (and loved) it. Totally agree Jude Bolton Why aren’t players, clubs & players association standing up against this rubbish. All for protecting the head but accidents happen in contact sports.

Thanks for highlighting this Lora Giangregorio, PhD šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦ - the 'evidence' that denosumab can improve muscle strength is based on a few poor studies. Here is the link to our letter to the editor that prompted this (eventual) retraction: e-agmr.org/m/journal/view… Belinda Beck Prof Robin Daly

This is staggering.. So player Moore elects to go to ground and Pickett in a 10th of sec hits him high and so suspension! Yet another example of AFL reacting to outcome with no sense of how game is played in real time/speed nor that it is a contact sport. @afl lost plot!

Watched many games and Xerri was a better/more consistent ruckman than Gawn! Seems voting abit like the Australian cricket team… once in team hard to get dropped but getting in more difficult. Nothing against Gawn who is a great ruckman but not #1 this yr #AFLAwards

Nothing unexpected here re: Bimagrumab & lack of benefits on #muscle strength & #function. Nice gains in #muscle mass/size but this highlights increasing mass doesn't necessary translate into functional gains, which is what matters for most older people! pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39251484/

Perhaps mixed messages here Musculoskeletal Health Australia World's Biggest Sit-in: Get moving can be as simple as sitting down! With all the research on the harmful effects of prolonged sitting, perhaps the World's Biggest Sit to Stand: Getting People Up & Moving would be more positive.

Not only is the cost of living rising but page charges for those of us trying to publish our research with the aim to improve health outcomes, policy, practice etc. Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle can u explain why it costs US$5400 = >AU$8000 😳 to publish in your journal? Highest I have seen!

David Scott (@davidscottphd) 's Twitter Profile Photo

@LamonSeverine Prof Robin Daly Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle $8000 to host a PDF on a website... When will our employers and funders l funding agencies stop demanding that we publish in these "high impact" journals, so that we can instead spend that money on research?

Prof Robin Daly (@daly_prof) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Any further nominations on the journal with the highest page charges? Stu’s Stuart Phillips (he/him) nomination of US$9k for Cell Metabolism/Cell Reports now ranked 1 Darren Candow, PhD, CSEP-CEP, FISSN David Scott My first car was cheaper!

Prof Robin Daly (@daly_prof) 's Twitter Profile Photo

😳😳For all the Aussies in academia that’s AU$18,400 if you want to publish in Nature Metabolism! How do all these journals come up with these extreme and markedly different costs! Stuart Phillips (he/him) David Scott I think we need a royal commission into this rort!

We are working on it Greg & have a new #muscle health algorithm for use in primary care that we will trial next yr + have a presentation @GPCE #Melbourne on why muscle matters David Scott Stay tuned for more..

Why do we persist with Luke McDonald .. seriously not up to it and now they sub Phillips who at least had an impact #AFLDogsNorth

Prof Robin Daly (@daly_prof) 's Twitter Profile Photo

North not great but geez umps yet again having shocker.. no consistency… Coll v Bris bad last night as well.. too much influence on games. Yet AFL think it’s better than ever.. wake up and smell the roses! #AFLNorthBlues

Prof Robin Daly (@daly_prof) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Not good when your season ends in Round 6 and it’s mid April. Hard to comprehend that an AFL side with professional players being paid good $ continue to show no improvement / progress in 10 yrs #AFLNorthBlues

Prof Robin Daly (@daly_prof) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I think it time all players + @afl players association acted against this ongoing rubbish. Maybe all players boycotting (just refuse to play) or if too extreme all agree not to tackle this wk to send a message to AFL to show them how much they have ruined our game. It’s a joke!
