Was -4 overnight. Canola seeded a week ago today was poking through on the sandier areas of field. Read in CW Jay Whetter about marking plants with washers to better assess damage over next couple days.

Re: #abbugchat discussion of Cereal Leaf Beetle. There is a similar beetle that is abundant lately. Here are photos I took today. Two-spotted Flower Beetle, Collops bipunctatus, in the Soft-winged Flower Beetle family Melyridae, subfamily Malachiinae. Predator on some crop pests.

The thoughts that go thru my mind as I walk a canola field: Lygus? Diamondbacks? Cabbage seed pod weevil? Beneficials? Blackleg? Sclerotinia risk? Nutrient deficiency? Herbicide injury? What am I missing? What can we do better???
