Today, WHO Zimbabwe Rep DANGOU Jean-Marie joined UKinZimbabwe 🇬🇧 🇿🇼 Ambassador Peter Vowles at Marondera Hospital to discuss on the response to the cholera outbreak in the province. Thanks to World Health Organization (WHO) support, a 6-bed cholera treatment unit was established through the Health Resilience Fund.
This is the second cohort as we are aiming at training at least 500 community health workers. Proud of the collaboration between Africa CDC and WHO Zimbabwe supporting the Ministry of HealthZW containing and stopping the #cholera outbreak. WHO African Region Dr Matshidiso Moeti
Today, with colleagues from WHO Zimbabwe, a Ministry of HealthZW team, I met Health authorities of Bulawayo Metropolitan & Mat North. The success factors driving the low number of cholera cases & key issues & challenges were discussed. We toured Thorngrove Infectious diseases hospital.

Over 2.1 million people in Zimbabwe were reached with oral cholera vaccines, thanks to a campaign launched in January by Ministry of HealthZW, supported by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance WHO Zimbabwe & UNICEF ZIMBABWE. This is a major step forward in controlling the outbreak! Read more: bit.ly/49ErB1f

This morning, WHO Zimbabwe Country Representative Professor DANGOU Jean-Marie paid a courtesy call on Vice President Dr. Constantino Chiwenga as he concludes his tour of duty. He expressed gratitude for the support & strong working relationship enjoyed during his time.
VP Chiwenga commended Dr. DANGOU Jean-Marie's leadership in the ongoing cholera response & highlighted WHO's crucial role in coordinating the response (incl. polio). He is looking forward to working with the new Rep, building on the successes recorded during his tenure.
