Great paper. Should be mandatory reading for consumers of AI 4 science research. Tldr: lots of stuff reporting that AI is good at coming up with "new" ideas is BS because the ideas are in the training data, even if they appear new to some evaluators

One of the most misleading words, in terms of its usage, is "merit." So much so that when someone uses it, my mind unconsciously replaces it with luck.
