I used em dashes (a lot) before ChatGPT made them the official punctuation of soulless AI prose. (can't believe I've had to gentrify my own writing style)

Fayth Tan beautifully wrote about some of my thoughts on why we need technology to be more geo-culturally inclusive. Can’t thank Schmidt Sciences enough for championing (and sponsoring) this line of work!

All week during rebuttals, I have started each day with the same reminder: stay humble, stay kind, don't let this turn me mean. When I was doing PhD, reviewers never felt this mean. There is a bright-eyed student sitting on the other side, and such reviews will destroy

It means absolutely nothing to be overly emotionally patriotic towards a country, which is just a concept, while having little empathy towards its own citizens. Happy independence day to the subcontinent

Great paper. Should be mandatory reading for consumers of AI 4 science research. Tldr: lots of stuff reporting that AI is good at coming up with "new" ideas is BS because the ideas are in the training data, even if they appear new to some evaluators

Often after talks, people come and tell me that they did not expect to understand the talk but they could follow mine pretty easily! Such low expectations are perhaps due to speakers taking their audience for granted, without relating or empathizing with their backgrounds.

AI is already at work in American newsrooms. We examine 186k articles published this summer and find that ~9% are either fully or partially AI-generated, usually without readers having any idea. Here's what we learned about how AI is influencing local and national journalism:
