My friend is a general medicine TPD. He is insanely gifted. We were looking at medical training programmes together years ago and I asked him what it would cost to build a well-trained workforce today. I will never forget his answer… 'We can’t, we don’t know how to do it.'

Simply heartbreaking. As a father of 2 children of similar ages, I cannot imagine what these two are experiencing.

My very wise and respected elder colleague was asked why they were so good at anaesthetising high risk patients undergoing complex surgery. His response was "Just kept running towards danger." Eventually you get desensitised to that feeling of panic.

Today it has been 2 months since I started working at Singapore General Hospital, and I've really enjoyed the transition. I've anaesthetised just over 100 patients during this time, and I think I have a sense of how things work in a new healthcare system now. It's been great!

Dr Swathy I’d say the grass isn’t greener anywhere. Find a happy place for yourself (easier says than done) and find contentment in what you do.
