22 years ago, one of the first Sure Start centres opened in Southampton, launched by then PM Tony Blair. This Labour Government is bringing them back. I’m working to bring Best Start Family Hubs to Southampton building on the £1.3m already secured to improve local hubs.

I've been to see some of the new affordable housing that is coming to Southampton. 🏗️ VIVID and Hampshire Homes are building 128 new social rent homes in Thornhill. Much more of this to come thanks to the govt's new £billion social and affordable homes programme. 👍

Such a pleasure to spend time with staff and pupils at St Patrick's Catholic Primary School in Woolston recently. It was great to meet their school council and see their new government-funded free breakfast club - one of the first in the country and already a hit!

Really pleased that SouthamptonCC has been invited to join a new government scheme to boost council-led housebuilding. Coming soon after the announcement of its new Social and Affordable Homes Programme, this is another sign of a government getting a grip on the housing crisis.

There’s so much going on in Southampton this summer, and today it was great to join a trio of Southampton MPs and lots of councillors to celebrate the Mela festival at Hoglands Park! ☀️🎉 Huge thanks to Art Asia for organising another fantastic event! 👏

🚒 Fantastic to meet and listen to firefighters in Southampton last week. Too often their role in supporting our emergency services is overlooked. As we look to reform and strengthen public services, their contribution to prevention and community safety must not be forgotten.

Very proud to be one of the group of cross-party MPs that worked on this important report into children's social care. We heard from young people with direct experience of the system. Their voices are at the heart of the report and its recommendations - as they should be.
