If Iraq is any guide, most of those advocating for a larger regional war to "remake the Middle East" will suffer none of the consequences of the conflict. They will opine and tweet comfortably from green rooms while average Americans, Arabs, Persians, and Israelis bear the costs

Russia is developing nuclear-armed satellites to destroy other satellites. When this news broke, it struck me as not good. The more I think about it, the worse it becomes. My latest for Carnegie Endowment, Carnegie Nuclear Policy: "Space Nukes Are Bad." carnegieendowment.org/posts/2024/10/…

Biden and Harris ran for president as the candidates of the system, right down to campaigning with Dick Cheney’s daughter, Liz. They touted her moral rectitude even as most of the country knew the Cheneys for sponsoring foreign policy disaster. Thread:

Americans need an alternative to the choice between “America first” unilateralism or “America is back” nostalgia. New piece from Nancy Okail and me in Foreign Affairs foreignaffairs.com/united-states/…

Its fun to see the people who have not done archival research before looking at the new JFK files and realising that archives are 90% payslips and insurance forms for federal employees in the 60s. And then like a random intel report from Vietnam saying the US is going to lose.

It's a very good quote. Especially if you realize that the alternative to an arms race (however defined) does not have to be an open conflict.

The U.S. should not join a war against Iran, and I will ask the Senate to stop such a reckless idea. Have we learned nothing from 20+ years of war in the Middle East? axios.com/2025/06/14/isr…

Pre-empting the inevitable "see, nobody is bombing North Korea because it has nuclear weapons," I'd note that NK didn't have weapons at some point. US was preparing to attack in 1994, but went with the Agreed Framework instead (which worked despite later unrelated problems). 1/2
