“On the face of it, the proposed changes appear to be too little, too late. Although they implement some of the immediate mitigations that the BMA has been calling for, they fall well short of the long term solution the NHS desperately needs.” The BMJ bmj.com/content/379/bm…

Tonight, I’ve come close to tears whilst apologising to patients for the standards of care we are able to provide. In my 22 years of being an A&E Dr, I’ve never seen things so bad. It’s the same everywhere. I just hope patients know fault lies with politicians not NHS staff.

I'm told NHS England is not at this stage considering declaring a national level incident like it did in Covid. Regardless, across the country the NHS, patients and staff are in serious trouble...

I'm so concerned about the #NHSCrisis that I wrote to my MP Philip Davies asking him to urge the government to act, particularly on social care. I thought the voters of #Bingley #Saltaire & #Shipley would like to read his response and I do hope they remember it at the next GE.

#PayRestoration From today, some employers, seniors and rota coordinators will tell you things that are not true. Some are clumsy mistakes, some are attempts to undermine your will to strike. The media will attack you and your reps. Here are some mistruths you may hear: 🧵

Junior Drs low morale isn’t just about pay. It’s about unnecessary educational hoops, lack of employment stability & being treated like rota fodder rather than being valued. Any resolution to strikes which just address pay and not values , will not solve the underlying issues.

As a doctor I’ve made mistakes. But the worst mistake are those we don’t learn from. My piece in the good health section of todays mail on importance of human factors

A non-geriatrician consultant once told me frailty was “just a fancy word”. But many see the benefits nowadays to balance those who don’t.

I have just finished another set of incredibly difficult weekend nights as the A&E consultant incharge. Some thoughts: The NHS no longer provides unscheduled care - we provide treatment. Care is with dignity - that's impossible for our patients in corridors. The model of
