Great piece by Helen Lewis in The Atlantic. I know people who have swallowed all the lies who also read the Atlantic, and I wonder if they'll read this and just dismiss it as "more TERF garbage." 1/

Free speech means stupid people get to sing stupid things. The right reaction is to mock, criticise and defeat their worldview. Getting police involved is absurd. But once you criminalise some hurty words, you create the demand for all hurty words to be criminalised.

The most telling part of this case is when the Trump administration took the unprecedented step of releasing the full Kamala Harris interview. Once it was out, there was practically crickets—because it just wasn’t that bad. Networks edit interviews for clarity all the time.

A lot of folks don't believe in free speech. "Oh no! We believe in free speech! As long as it's not anti-American! Or bigoted towards trans people! Or anti-Israel! Or said by foreigners who are guests!" Exactly. You don't believe in free speech.

Roman Helmet Guy is mistaken. 1. Marcus believed in stoicism, not nothing. 2. Pizarro only had to kill Atahualpa and the Incan state fell, while Rome’s enemies were decentralized tribes. 3. Marcus had no weapon like the nuke that was smallpox.

America hasn’t been perfect. It’s made grave mistakes. But there is no country that has ever done more for improving the world. It breaks my heart how unappreciative Americans across the ideological spectrum are of that. Much of the left rejects we’ve ever been good for the
