Col de la Loze: “I’m gone, I’m dead”. Me too Pogi, me too. 😰🤪🤣. Horrible climb with loads of 20% stretches, but cracking to be bike only for last 8km. Overall, 22km at 8%, and that sting in the tail!

Two more big climbs today: Col du Tra & La Plagne. Not much to see unfortunately, 1st in the forest all the way to the top, & 2nd a big ugly ski pile. However, did see 1992 Winter Olympics bobsleigh track, which you’re allowed to walk down 😮, but forbidden to cycle down 🤣

Val Thorens & Col de Tougnète. Monster grind of 25 km to Menuires & then to the bike path for the 10 km stretch to VT (yep, 35 km climb). Down a bit & then up 6 km bonkers bike path to Tougnète, 20% + everywhere! Nice to finish up on something memorable & quirky though!

Nice to get another bit of resurrected research from the distant past out there in Volcanica. One of my favourite bogs, Loch Bà, Isle of Mull, and good times in the field with Peter and Ross. #geology #fieldwork #mull #volcano doi.org/10.30909/vol.0…

I’ve got a horrible snotty cold and cough, which meant cancelling Christmas at my folks, because my Mum is going in for a much needed hip operation in a few days, so couldn’t risk giving her an infection. However, swung by on the bike and waved from afar like COVID times!

I did a virtual Everesting (riding up and down the same mountain until you reach 8848m elevation gain). 🤪 Fuelled by copious amounts of mac and cheese, sausage rolls, and my Mum’s home baking. I’m goosed. #cycling #everesting

This year’s stats. Managed to ride every day, but overall disappointing year. Distance way down, but a lot of climbing (more relatively in elevation gain per km). More virtual climbs on trainer due to abysmal weather all year!!! Least I managed to chuck in vEveresting at the end.

Happy New Year. Some nice memories from 2024: fieldwork in Cumbria & the NW Highlands, my new bike Ana, the Olympics, cycling in the Vercors, Alpe d’Huez with Luc for the Tour de France Femmes, up the Galibier, & in the field with my pal Toby who’ll be much missed in Glasgow.

Today is the 6th March 2025. The last day I did not ride my bicycle was 6th March 2020. Five years streak!!! It wasn’t really intentional but it’s what keeps me happiest. #cycling #roadcycling #bike #roadbike
