Bad mentors see you as building their brand. They take credit for your success. Good mentors see you as a younger version of themselves. They help you follow in their footsteps. Great mentors see your potential to be a better version of yourself. They help you find your path.

The best way to open people's minds isn't to argue with them. It's to listen to them. When people feel understood, they become less defensive and more reflective—and develop less extreme, more nuanced views. Productive disagreements begin with curiosity, not persuasion.

Leaders shouldn't aim to be liked. They should strive to be respected. Ā  We don’t have to agree with every decision. We need to align with their visions and admire their values. Ā  Trust isn’t granted for competence alone. It's earned through caring about people and principles.

I love this reminder Adam Grant being able to laugh and learn is priceless. Appropriate humour whilst learning together has great benefits too! We see it in workshops all the time.

Another sound reminder from Adam Grant - in addition, when appropriate, would add bringing focus to individual/team locus of control and sphere of influence.

The attitude that helps most with intense stress is not mindfulness. It’s hope. In hard times, it’s overwhelming to live only in the present. What brings strength is anticipating a brighter future. Resilience lies in remembering that today's burdens may be lighter tomorrow.

We learn more from reading on paper than on screens. 54 studies, 171k people: we process print more deeply than digital content—as long as it's informational rather than purely narrative. The paper advantage holds across ages and has grown over time. Long live physical books.

Many people mistake warmth for integrity. The fact that someone is nice to us doesn't mean they'll do right by us. Trustworthiness can't be judged in one interaction. It has to be observed over time. People with strong principles honor their commitments to us and to others.

ā€œI don’t knowā€ is not an admission of ignorance. It’s an expression of intellectual humility. ā€œI was wrongā€ is not a confession of failure. It’s a display of intellectual integrity. ā€œI don’t understandā€ is not a sign of stupidity. It’s a catalyst for intellectual curiosity.

I just returned from filming multiple documentaries in South Africa… I can assure you: no one in South Africa sleeps with their doors unlocked. That illusion of safety is reserved for the 1%—people like Cyril Ramaphosa and Johann Rupert—whose wealth is rooted in ANC
