This is bonkers! A ‘trainee’ ACP is a nurse. Who is NOT a doctor. And cannot function as basically as IMT2-3 (junior Reg in old money). Outright work substitution and inherently unsafe.

Important research here from the Manchester Team on the use of locums in General Practice. Adding to the excellent work already done on the use and safety of locums in primary and secondary care. qualitysafety.bmj.com/content/33/6/3… pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39340364/

EXC: NHS sees public as an inconvenience, says new boss: refreshing candour in my interview with Sir Jim Mackey, tomorrow’s Telegraph splash telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/06/2…

Working class doctors are saddled with over £100k of student loan debt on graduation. Essentially an additional tax over their entire working life. This needs to be addressed.

1/ This 10‑Year NHS Plan isn’t a reform—it’s a roadmap to decline. Here’s what actually matters—and how each is abandoned in today’s Plan 👇

The NHS Workforce Plan, to me, suggests the Leng Review will allow PAs/AAs to continue with some adjustments – my bet is on a name change, clearer ID, slight tweaks. That doesn’t go far enough. We need proper role clarity, accountability and an end to undifferentiated care.

And there we have it folks! The NHS Plan doubling down on workforce substitution. But it will be just fine. Cos AI. assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6866387f… Page 22

I am only at 28th page of 168. But my brain is melting. Retread of old ideas that didn't work last time. Or smashing of things that work OK but could be tweaked. Whoever wrote it has a poor knowledge of the system. No clue about what the evidence base ACTUALLY says. No 2nd 1/

Before we know it, the majority of elective orthopaedic and maybe some trauma cases will be performed by non-medics. It is already happening for "simple" cases (e.g., CTS, trigger finger), but it will go further than that if we do not stop it.

As for UK graduate prioritisation, while it's good to see our lobbying has had an impact, we need to know when the policy will be implemented. We don't have ten years to sort this problem out. Doctors are facing career dead-ends right now. (3/3)

1000 new places will not fix the training bottlenecks. UK graduate prioritisation with protections for current IMGs is a start. But only if it applies now. Without any timeline, this is just lip service. Disappointing indeed. We expect Wes Streeting and his team to do better

Dr Haseena Wazir (@drhwazir) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Today, Wes Streeting had a chance to fix the doctor unemployment crisis. He blew it. As part of the 10 year NHS workforce plan today, he’s pledged just 1,000 extra specialty training places over three years. This year alone, 20,000 applicants are expected to miss out on

#NHS Plan also does not adequately take into account the amount of unmet health need that would be picked up by more accessible neighbourhood health services. It is more than likely that this would increase referral through the system to secondary care services.

No surprises that patients would rather see the “gold standard” of a doctor, rather than a lesser-trained substitute. independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…

We fought for safety. But we still need to pay the lawyers who fought for us. We are about £15,000 short. The reasons are at anaesthetistsunited.com/we-fought-for-…
