Missing out on the #SDG Summit and U.N General Assembly today but I’m taking action closer to home. Teacher in service today Grapevine-Colleyville ISD means a day filled with interviews, non profit meetings and #KindnessROCKS.

Extraversion is not a prerequisite for leadership. It doesn't matter how outgoing people are. What counts is how well they communicate and how committed they are to serving. The people to promote are the ones with the skill—and the will—to elevate the group above themselves.

“I am who I am” is not a sign of a strong identity. It’s a mark of a closed mind. A rigid sense of self is a barrier to growth. It makes you a prisoner of your past. Prior patterns don't have to dictate future decisions. Who you've been shouldn't limit who you become.

Second, to consistently look at the students in our care and the adults we are serving through the lens of human flourishing. By this I mean using the spirit and methods of coaching to seek gifts in people and to do what we can to convert those gifts into talents. Conrad Hughes

Calling people "toxic" is rarely helpful. It focuses on their impact instead of their actions. Toxicity comes in 5 flavors: disrespectful, dishonest, cutthroat, exclusionary, and abusive. A good warning pinpoints patterns of behavior that are problematic and persistent.

If you have constructive feedback, it’s not rude to speak up. It's unkind to stay silent. Honesty is the highest form of flattery. It signals that you respect their ability to handle the truth. Don't deprive people of the opportunity to learn. Offering ideas is an act of care.

Dear managers: A company is not a family. Parents owe kids unconditional love. Most companies only offer at-will employment. A leader's job is not to show daily affection. It's to give people pay and purpose, support their success, and care about their well-being.

Taking phones off the internet boosts mental health. People were randomly assigned to block mobile internet for 2 weeks. They socialized, exercised, and read more—and became happier, less depressed & anxious, and more focused. Being unglued from devices is good for well-being.
