As I’m in Dundee, made my first official visit for what may become a future book, a fascinating chat with Johnny from Holy Goat Brewing on all-Bretannomyces fermentation, cask ageing, blending & the impact of hops on funk. Tasted some very promising beers in tank too.

At @CAMRA_AGM Caird Hall Dundee getting ready for my cask tasting & just spotted the venue was a location for one of my fave hidden gem films An Englishman Abroad (1983) when it stood in for the Bolshoi in Moscow.

Pleased to hear one of my fave brewers Burton Bridge Brewery in Burton, whose owners have been trying to retire for some time, is continuing by merging with iconic neighbour Heritage Brewing Co & with the great Emma Cole as manager. Hope the DBA, Empire & Tickle Brain keep flowing!

Kill the Cat's innovative original branch in Brick Lane closes end July, though thankfully the more bar-like Spitalfields branch will remain open. One of London's most interesting bottle shops but it seems the future is drinking in. BeerGuideLondon Emma Stump

Drinking a fino sherry from Emilio Lustau in Jerez de la Frontera. Full of acetaldehyde: green apple, green almonds and olive brine, gracias a la flor. Interesting that these would be big-time off flavours in most beers, but very much part of the character here.
