We also heard from Caroline Wilson and Cllr Diarmaid Ward from Islington Council. Their approach to planning and policy is ‘furthest first’ – to focus on those communities facing the most barriers and that are least served by our economy.

Diarmaid Ward leads our amendment to the opposition's first motion. Whilst we agree with the sentiment, we must get the facts right! This council refuses to accept a cut and paste motion from Plymouth Council - #WeAreIslington! Do Islington Greens know where they represent?🤨

Crucially, Clause 5 of the Welfare Reform Bill was removed, with tighter protections for disabled people, lifting 50,000 people out of poverty. Disabled people, carers and organisations will co-produce the Timms review, with no changes to be made until the review is published🌹

Diarmaid Ward leads on embedding social value and compliance in procurement practices. This means prioritising social value in contracts, supporting SMEs, boosting local economic resilience and aligning procurement with Islington's #NetZero Carbon 2030 target♻️
