It was great to speak to councillors and officers at the District Councils Network as they celebrated 50 years. I heard many great examples of local prevention and reform, growth and neighbourhood services which show the difference local government makes every day.

It’s great to see so many people attending our commemoration of #130years of women’s right to stand to become district councillors. We’ll ask challenging questions about why too few women stand to be cllrs now says @CllrHDalton

The views of our communities have been side-lined so far in the #localgov reorganisation debate. We believe they should be front and centre. So it's hugely fitting that next week's #DCNconf25 takes place a stone's throw from Runnymede, the birthplace of British democracy.

.Jim McMahon MP was today asked about county councils which refuse to share data to districts to support #localgov reorg plans. “Info sharing, and the sharing of insight and knowledge, has to be a priority. Where it is not happening, it has to take place," he said #DCNConf2025

“The greatest LGR risk is losing momentum and settling for change that isn’t change. Instead, LGR must focus on a meaningful renewal and reform – driving growth, improving public wellbeing, and restoring faith in the local state."
