I had the honour of attending the Diwali Basket Brigade (DBB) as High Sheriff of the West Midlands. This has become annannual event for me and one that I have attended in many different roles since its inception. It really is a masterclass in community cohesion in so many ways.

We were honoured to welcome Deputy Prime Minister, Angela Rayner , (MP for Ashton-under-Lyne) to our DBB packing event in Manchester. She even helped pack a few hampers! Angela was delighted to spend time with our amazing volunteers and charity partners.

Sobering new Trussell stats out today. In just 1st 6 months of this year, food banks in the Trussell community provided 1.42 million emergency food parcels. 508,000 were for children. Close to record levels of need, 69% higher than 5 years ago. 1/7🧵

🚨 Over 1.4 MILLION emergency food parcels were provided by food banks in our community in just 6 months. This is 69% higher than the same period 5 years ago. This can't go on and we refuse to stand by while so many of us are pushed to the brink, without enough money to live on.
