Wonderful to be at this event about Etain Tannam’s new book, with great discussion on the past, present, and future of British-Irish relations and facing the ongoing challenges of implementing the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement.

A legit question for AI enthusiasts - what process in a large language model like Grok would give an answer to this question which is meaningful or interesting? What do people think they are getting when they ask LLMs these sorts of questions?

This first happened to me a few years ago. A research assistant was helping me with a paper on banking crisis/austerity in Ireland and she said “I learned a lot reading this draft because all this stuff happened when I was 8” 💀

Again on foot of nothing in particular, a thread about the complicated question of whether the Dáil can hypothetically remove a speaker who refused to resign following a motion of no confidence.

Good time to break out this quote from Keith Thomas, great historian of magic, which is one of the better roasts of lawyers that I have read.

Yes, turnout requirements lack any logic. If (as % of electorate) Yes wins 26–25, proposal is passed; if 49–0, it fails. Opponents better advised to abstain than to vote No to a popular proposal, and Salvini has urged his supporters to 'go to the beach' just as Craxi did in 1991.
