Hey San Francisco Police- not fucking good enough. Today an unhoused person snuck into my kid’s school playground and refused to leave. School went into lockdown. It took 78 min and 2 calls to 911 before police arrived. You were so damn slow the person had thankfully already left on their own.

#VanquishNeo users - What do I have to do to make this LC like me? We got 3 installed recently and we are seeing this problem where we progressively lose signal during the gradient. Example image from earlier this month (top) vs. today (bottom). Happening on 2 of 3 LCs.

New preprint alert! Here we show how SEC-MS is a powerful tool for host pathogen interactions profiling. We applied it to Jumbophages, which are large bacterial viruses (>300 genes) holding great potential as antibiotics. What did we find? 1\n biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Thanks to all who responded to my Vanquish Neo call for help. Here is an update. TLDR: we think desalting tip C18 particles were leaking into final sample, building up on the needle seat, and retaining hydrophobic peptides. Full troubleshooting details: tinyurl.com/3v62rhnb

At my US HUPO lightning talk I made a silly slide about how using SEC-MS for studying host-pathogen interactions would stop classic Reviewer #2 critiques. It worked!! Andrea Fossati got the best 1st round reviews ever. R2 says: "Thus, the paper can be accepted in its native form." 🥂

Andrea is awesome to work with! 10/10 would do it again. Creative, smart, and knows how to focus and get projects done. You are in for a fun ride if you work with him.

Blocking access to Algebra in public middle schools hurts everyone. You can’t take Calculus by end of high school without it. Banning access to math is the ultimate virtue signal with bad outcomes, and they’re going to force it California-wide

On #InternationalWomensDay, I want to throw back to this article I wrote for eLife Community about my abortion during my PhD. #WomenInSTEM don’t need pats on the back- we need institutional policies that protect our rights, our healthcare, & allow us to make our own choices. 1/2

In eRA Commons a green "Council review completed" status means a grant still has a chance for funding? I have an NIGMS grant with a fundable (but not amazing) score and it has been in this status since October. PO doesn't respond to email or call to discuss, so I am being patient

Did you know that phage can inject DNA, many proteins, recruit host membrane/membrane proteins and assemble a lipid vesicle to protect the genome?Deepto Mozumdar led this effort with contributions from a large multi-disciplinary team. Cell Host & Microbe sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

This @mjmaccoss preprint about QC is too real. Like when your turbo pump explodes and sends shrapnel into every crevice of your mass spec causing problems for half a year. This QC platform help you know when your instrument is actually all clean again :) biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
