When University of California killed its contract with Elsevier this year, it was paying $10M of CALIFORNIA TAXPAYER MONEY in subscriptions to which CA taxpayers *had no access*. In 2018, Elsevier posted $9.8B in profit. Spare us the crocodile tears about publisher revenue models.
