The post below by the Constitution Unit refers to today's letter in the Times from them, myself and others urging the Government to move forward on much needed changes to improve ethics and standards in government. They are easy to deliver and long overdue.

Given the minimal gains & significant risks of leaving the Convention when Robert Jenrick claims “It’s leave [the ECHR] or die for our party” the reality is the opposite. Poor policymaking masked by shallow rhetoric is a much bigger threat. Dominic Grieve conservativehome.com/2024/11/01/dom…

I am pleased to see that the PM went to France today. U.K.-French Defence co-operation has never been more needed. We are facing the greatest threat to European peace since the 1930's. We now need to see this Entente used to ensure that Russia cannot and does not win in Ukraine.

I note that Robert Jenrick is expanding his attack on the Attorney General Richard Hermer alleging he has acted on matters on which he has a conflict of interest. There is, as matters stand, not a shred of evidence that this has happened. As a barrister Hermer was under a duty

Five years since we left the EU and not one tangible benefit to have come from it. Most telling of all is how it has diminished our ability to generate wealth and thus provide for our defence and public services in challenging times. Far from getting rid of red tape there were

The events this week confirm for me the opinion I expressed in my last post. Pleased as I am that our PMs visit to Washington seemed to be reasonably successful, it is hard not to see the entire week as a performative pantomime orchestrated by Trump. He placated France and the
