*IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT* We gave the government 100 days to commit to taking water back into public hands. 100 days are now up and, instead of doing the right thing, Starmer has sided with water bosses and billionaire shareholders. 🧵

Water firms have been given the green light to hike prices by 36%. It'll be no surprise if people refuse to pay. Live on BBC News this evening 👇

Thames Water got approval for its £3 billion bailout loan, but it's still going to go bust. 16 million customers could now face 59% price hikes to pay for Thames' mountain of debt. We'll put them out of business instead. Join us 👉 takebackwater.uk

🆕 35% of our water bills was spent on debt and dividends — not vital water and sewerage services. New data reveals that billions from our bills last year were diverted to interest payments on water firms' debt piles and payouts to shareholders. End this privatisation premium!

Steve Coogan is right, and millions of people across the country feel the same. We won’t pay for a broken system. We want a nationalised water system that is fairly priced and doesn’t pollute our waters with human waste.

Martin Lewis is spot on here. Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves are waving through price rises across water, energy and council tax today. Shareholders get billions, we get shafted!

This is huge – millions of people are thinking about refusing to pay their water bills! After decades of price hikes, sewage dumping and government failure, it's no wonder so many of us are ready to take matters into our own hands.

Our rivers and seas are full of sewage – and 1 in 4 people are so sick of it they're ready to stop paying their water bill. The time for mass non-payment targeting the private water industry is now, so we're organising it. Here's the latest from our campaign 👇

We hit 10,000 pledges to strike 💪 That's enough people to withhold half a million pounds from the water firms every month. It's a lot of cash – but we need this number to be way higher to seriously disrupt the industry. Help us get to 20,000 next 👉 takebackwater.uk

With millions of people considering not paying their water bills, our potential power is immense. Water firms' finances already stretched to their limits. If we can get organised and stop paying en masse, we'll put an end to private water for good. Let's make it happen.

Water company bosses have handed £83 billion to shareholders in the 35 years since privatisation. For decades, our cash has been diverted away from investment in the water system and into the pockets of private profiteers. This can't go on.

‼️ Water bills will rise to £2,000 a year, according to industry regulator. After decades of underinvestment, water company bosses want to QUADRUPLE prices by 2050 and make us pay to clean up their mess. This is our future if we don't act now. Don't pay!

Thames Water is on the brink of collapse – and will use emergency cash to pay out huge sums in executive bonuses. Water company bosses are making off with what they can before the whole thing comes crumbling down!

35p in every £1 we pay for water is wasted. Water firms use our cash to service debts and pay dividends – rather than fixing leaks or cleaning up rivers. Our bills would be cheaper and our rivers cleaner if we weren't paying the price of private ownership.

Energy prices will still be 10% higher than last year. Water bills are up 26%. It's more money in shareholders' pockets, not ours.
