In the land of ice and snow... ...and volcanoes 🌋🌋🌋 #Cryo2ice is here 🛰️🛰️ Get ready for a week of 🧊 ice sheets and ice shelves 🏔️ mountain glaciers 🌊 oceans ❄️ snow and sea ice 🏞️ inland waters 🔮 & a CRISTAL clear future CryoSat 🤝 ICESat-2 ESA Earth Observation🤝NASA Earth

Emphasizing the importance of role models in #STEM science we're dedicating a #Cryo2Ice Symposium 2024 session to discuss WomenInScience in #PolarSatelliteAltimetry and tackling the grand challenges in polar climate.

And the future, you ask? What's up next for #PolarAltimetry? It's exciting! We're busy planning for the upcoming European Space Agency #CRISTAL mission, due for launch in 2027/2028. #Cryo2Ice Symposium 2024.

@TaniaGDCasal Paolo Cipollini 🇪🇺🇮🇹🇬🇧 Albert Garcia-Mondejar 🤔 isardSAT Henriette Skourup DTU Cryoshere NASA JPL Malcolm McMillan CPOM Reint Fischer of Univ. of Maryland now with a look at the added value of SWOT for sea ice mapping Can help understand the capabilities of dual frequency altimetry, crossovers with ICESat-2...

Leveraging the NASA Earth #DualBand #SWOT mission to provide 2D context for 1D ARCHIVED - NASA Ice #ICESat2 profiles of #SeaIce topography in the #Arctic with UMD Atmos&Ocean Sci Reint Fischer. Paving the way for the Ku-Ka ESA Earth Observation #CRISTAL mission!

Wrapping up ESA's CryoSat mission ARCHIVED - NASA Ice #Cryo2Ice Symposium: DTU Cryoshere Henriette Skourup stresses the importance of collaboration and coordination efforts to progress in polar remote sensing ...so more #Cryo2Ice activities please! 🙏

We're enjoying Golden times for polar satellite altimetry thanks to ESA's CryoSat mission ARCHIVED - NASA Ice #Cryo2Ice and NASA Goddard's Aimée Gibbons notes the data are critical. Not only for doing fundamental research but also for addressing climate and societal challenges.

And that's a wrap (/rap?)! Science and poetry collide! ESA's CryoSat mission's wonderful #ArtistinResidence Peter wraps up the excellent #Cryo2Ice Symposium 2024 with this 👇 🤩👏🎉 Thanks everyone for a great few days in #Iceland

Important new research from Cisse UMD Research UMD Science published today, led by UMD Atmos&Ocean Sci Reint Fischer detailing the recent rapid changes occurring in the #BeringSea where #SeaIce is diminishing and #SignificantWaveHeight is increasing. 🧵 👇

🌊 What else happens when sea ice melts? In the Bering Sea, declining ice raises ocean energy transfer from winds, increasing wave height and threatening coastal communities, Univ. of Maryland study finds: go.umd.edu/sea-ice-melting w/ UMD Atmos&Ocean Sci Reint Fischer + Dr Sinead L Farrell

Despite the societal and economic importance of the Bering Sea, recent rapid changes in surface ocean conditions are not well documented. Time to address that gap with some #CryoSat data thanks to Reint Fischer Dr Sinead L Farrell & co. journals.ametsoc.org/view/journals/…

The "demand signal" from those living, working, studying and investing in the #Arctic confirmed the requirement for continued monitoring and modeling by NOAA Satellites NOAA Research NASA Earth #NASAEarthAction
