And the future, you ask? What's up next for #PolarAltimetry? It's exciting! We're busy planning for the upcoming European Space Agency #CRISTAL mission, due for launch in 2027/2028. #Cryo2Ice Symposium 2024.

We're enjoying Golden times for polar satellite altimetry thanks to ESA's CryoSat mission ARCHIVED - NASA Ice #Cryo2Ice and NASA Goddard's Aimée Gibbons notes the data are critical. Not only for doing fundamental research but also for addressing climate and societal challenges.

Update from the #Arctic: Winter is coming and the days are getting shorter on #Polarstern! However, sometimes we are rewarded with a beautiful sky (if there is no fog...😉). We are now leaving the ice and during our way out we are encountering this peculiar ice type: pancake ice!

🌊 What else happens when sea ice melts? In the Bering Sea, declining ice raises ocean energy transfer from winds, increasing wave height and threatening coastal communities, Univ. of Maryland study finds: go.umd.edu/sea-ice-melting w/ UMD Atmos&Ocean Sci Reint Fischer + Dr Sinead L Farrell

Despite the societal and economic importance of the Bering Sea, recent rapid changes in surface ocean conditions are not well documented. Time to address that gap with some #CryoSat data thanks to Reint Fischer Dr Sinead L Farrell & co. journals.ametsoc.org/view/journals/…

Higher inter-annual variability in key environmental indicators in the #Arctic reveals a very complex, and rapidly changing, region.
