I’m giving a public talk about bins! And not just one bin. Oh no, it’s a history of Leeds in five bins - from the Victorian ash pit to these wheelies. It’s on 11 April at 1pm at Leeds Central Library. You can book using the link here: eventbrite.co.uk/e/dr-henry-irv…

When people see how much food they’re wasting, by putting it in a separate bin, they want to do something to reduce it. Weekly #FoodWaste collections will give recycling in England a boost and help reduce the impact of food waste on climate change. bit.ly/3VAwSCS

I am told that there are still some tickets available for this talk about Leeds’s bins. It will be a whistle stop tour of everything from old landfill sites to the Leeds Bin App - so there really will be something for everyone with an interest in the things we throw away.

I’ve written a short blog about green wheelie bins for Leeds Libraries. It’s connected to my recent talk on the longer history of bins, but focuses on the 1990s - which I’m told is bang on trend: secretlibraryleeds.net/2024/04/22/lee…

I’m really excited be playing a part in supporting the extension of glass recycling in Leeds. This film shows what happens to the glass - and features a few historical clips for good measure. Bonus marks for anyone who knows where they were shot!
