TO BE CLEAR Science supports an individual approach There is insufficient high-quality evidence to support a group approach: there isnt a universal blueprint for phase based responses/programmes We absolutely need to report/respond to MC symptoms This is a female-centred approach

🚨 Female athletes, practitioners, researchers, journalists, reviewers & editors - it’s time to set the record straight on assumed menstrual cycle phases. We need to raise research standards, to finally provide female athletes with high-quality evidence. bmjopensem.bmj.com/content/10/2/e…

One More Time For The People In The Back 🧵 1) There is insufficient high-quality evidence to confirm or refute universal menstrual cycle phase based responses in [sports]women This is more than a lack of consensus amongst the scientific community, this is a lack of credible data

Excited to finally share this data! Resistance exercise stimulated muscle protein synthesis, but there was no effect of menstrual cycle phase on either resting or exercise-stimulated MPS or MPB. doi.org/10.1113/JP2873…

Not only is there a lack of evidence to support exercise programs that align with your menstrual cycle phase…cycle length, ovulation timing, and hormone levels vary SO much between women. Cycle phase-based programs completely ignore this variability.

Cycle-syncing - is there science to support it? Or is it much ado about nothing? Check out this fascinating discussion with Lauren Colenso-Semple, PhD Lauren Colenso-Semple PhD. She is a muscle physiology researcher, science communicator, and co-owner of the MASS Research Review. Her

The lack of difference is GOOD NEWS. Women can ditch the confusing and complex cycle syncing recommendations and ignore any fearmongering about oral contraceptives!!

Imagine if physicians started prescribing medications that had only been tested in rodents. That would be reckless and irresponsible, right? Women deserve evidence-based exercise, nutrition, and health recommendations.
