At long last, I'm pleased to share our findings characterizing the genetics of rattlesnake chemoperception! 🐍 Paper out today in JME with Darin Rokyta, Micaiah Ward, PhD, Gibbs Lab OSU, Scales of biodiversity, @floridastate Link: rdcu.be/ci8Mk

We manipulated corticosterone levels (hormone often associated with stress) in rattlesnakes in the field and it didn't affect their venom 🐍🥂 Check it out here: journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/71… Emily Taylor Matthew L Holding Darin Rokyta @verntasco @manakin_man

On October 29th we'll be hosting a seminar celebrating the amazing research of ECRs across the Americas! The session will be starting at 3pm (BST) hope to see you there! lstmed-ac-uk.zoom.us/meeting/regist… Anna Klompen, PhD Health Action International Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene

Speaker two is Schyler Ellsworth a Ph.D. candidate in the Rokyta Lab at FSU. Schyler uses multiple "omic" techniques to investigate venom evolution and the coevolution of venom resistance in many invertebrate species including centipedes

We applied phylo. path analysis to snake venom: diets related to both the venom gene diversity and patterns of expression. Proteases best fit this pattern, phospholipases fit another, venom lectins still confuse us - led by @AnacondrewMason Gibbs Lab OSU academic.oup.com/mbe/advance-ar…

Ok, this one’s easy folks! Obviously the best GBE cover from 2022 is the amazing snake artwork! And trust me I’m not biased! Shoutout to Tristan D. Schramer for putting this cover together! Pᴀʀᴋɪɴsᴏɴ Lᴀʙ Rʜᴇᴛᴛ M. Rᴀᴜᴛsᴀᴡ 🐍 @jstrickland63 Darin Rokyta

New #research from @AndySombke, Eivind Undheim and co. provides evidence that #venom glands and telopodal glandular organs evolved from the same type of epidermal gland, supporting the emergence of novelties on higher levels of biological complexity bit.ly/3VRvLi9

Francis Ebuara (@ushiebuaras) is a PhD student in Darin Rokyta lab! Their talk "Transposable Elements are Associated with Open Chromatin Regions (OCRs) and may Enhance the Expression of Venom Genes in Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnakes" is in Technologies and Applications #GRSVenom24

Excited to share my first, first-author paper exploring genomics and venom variation of the Red Diamond Rattlesnake across the Baja California region. academic.oup.com/gbe/advance-ar… GBE (Genome Biology and Evolution) Rʜᴇᴛᴛ M. Rᴀᴜᴛsᴀᴡ 🐍 Cameron Ramses Rosales Marc A Beer @SSSTING_Lab paul frandsen
