Lovely to be back at Heartbeat today talking to people about foods to improve cardiometabolic health, and nice to have some some MSc clinical exercise physiology students from Manchester Met Institute of Sport in the group, too!

Dr. Unwin is claiming that humans who are consuming low glycemic berries full of fiber and only 20-30carbs along with lean cuts of beef and chicken cause obesity. No scientific proof. When will this crap end 🤷‍♂️

Having supplements (meat sticks) as product placement in an interview with a government official in [presumably] a government building is so perfectly American. What a circus. Sorry US friends 🫠

RFK Jr and MAHA promised a return to “gold standard science.” Their report (likely AI generated) cites studies that don’t exist, and misrepresents existing ones. “Gold standard”? I’d fail an undergrad kid for this.

There has been an idea that ultra-processed foods merely induce an “addictive” effect due to dopamine release. That does not find support in a recent study. Presented by Kevin Hall at #NLASessions

The sheer irony of Nick Norwitz talking about the “the primary pre-specified outcome” when attempting to critic a paper debunking the Carb Insulin Model of Obesity is hilarious. 🥴💀 It’s not like he spent the best part of a month trying to hide his own primary pre-specified

The power of marketing. Only 0.2g/portion difference between the 2 products for #protein, which hardly seems enough to go all intense with the black packaging and stick "PROTEIN" on the front. I'd still choose the blue.

The head of the FDA tells us they're taking a look at the dietary guidelines and that the food pyramid is out. The food pyramid has not been in use since 2011 when MyPlate replaced it. It is inherently concerning the head of the FDA doesn't know this, but even moreso that

Can you really reverse type-2 diabetes just by losing weight? A new Lancet meta-analysis of 22 global RCTs says a clear: YES. And, for the first time, we have a formula for calculating the odds of success! Let’s bust the “magic diets” myth and look at the data. 🧵👇

Genetic variants that reduce ApoB concentrations reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. The more they lower ApoB concentrations, the more they reduce the risk of heart disease. This is amazingly clear causal evidence.
