With painted dogs back at DZC, we're reinforcing our commitment to the ongoing work of the Painted Dog Conservation, by raising funds for their anti-poaching efforts through the sale of these beautiful works of art - made from snare traps. They're on sale in the Safari Shop.

It's World Parrot Day today, but it's also apt to announce our latest animal of the month... Charlie the blue & gold macaw! Our Discovery Centre resident was nominated by staff for helping them meet & greet visitors over the Easter holidays & for being impeccably behaved!

As part of our ongoing on-site native species conservation work, we were recently joined by The Environment Agency, who have been helping us survey our zoo pools for any newt activity, & they've discovered thriving populations of smooth newts, which is great news!

Josie’s aced #TongueoutTuesday! Giraffes use their tongues to help them grab the tastiest leaves from the tallest trees. The dark colouration is also believed to act as a natural sunscreen, protecting their tongue from the hot sun while they’re eating!

Keepers have microchipped and sexed our wolverine babies and discovered we have two girls! And in keeping with the Viking themed monikers of parents, Helga and Floki, keepers have named them Lagertha and Freyia.

Our painted dog pack has been boosted by two following the arrival of the girls! A mother and daughter have joined us from Zoo Magdeburg in Germany and have now been introduced to the boys after settling into an adjacent paddock over the last few days.
