Delighted to see my Afterword with Prof Laura Cahillane published today in the Dublin University Law Journal. A great Christmas pressie 🎄🎅🎉

In this edition of DULJ, Dr Jamie McLoughlin and I argue that political presidential speech *is* constitutional. Essentially we argue that 1) the President's separation from executive branch and 2) their direct election undermines the supposed need for the office to be 'above politics'.

A career highlight for me was having Maria Cahill Prof Laura Cahillane Dr Saoirse Enright David Kenny comment on the DULJ Foreword Oran Doyle and I wrote about the last ten years of the Irish Supreme Court’s work. Our rejoinder to their great commentary is here: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf…

Thrilled to see the latest edition of the DULJ arrive on my desk this morning. What an opportunity it was to comment alongside Prof Laura Cahillane on the work of Conor Casey and Oran Doyle. A pre-publication draft of my Afterword with Prof Laura Cahillane is available at: lnkd.in/erY9emqa

Hickey, "How to Interpret the Irish Constitution" (Irish Sup Ct Review, 2023) is now on SSRN. It gets a "recommended" from Lawrence Solum, who says: "Fascinating discussion, with echoes of American debates over originalism and living constitutionalism." See lsolum.typepad.com/legaltheory/20…

Great to get the hard copy Clarus Press of my new book with Gerry Whyte. We argue the Irish constitution, properly construed against its natural law/catholic social teaching philosophical/ historical backdrop, provides protection against extreme poverty and deprivation. We
