The global mortality rate estimate for sharks is 100 million per year. As the continuation of an earlier project, emLab and Dalhousie University are updating extent and distribution estimates of shark finning, a major driving factor in shark population declines emlab.ucsb.edu/projects/mappi…
Sharks continue to be threatened by overfishing. In a new Frontiers - Marine Science paper, we identify global hotspots of shark interactions with industrial longline fisheries to aid in spatial management strategies for threatened populations frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…
My first paper is out now in @ICES_ASC! We take a deep dive into vessel tracking transparency - what it means, how it can improve fisheries management, and at what cost. Big s/o to the team emLab UC Santa Barbara for their guidance and support. Check it out: doi.org/10.1093/icesjm…
Take a deeper dive into our methods from our new paper in Frontiers - Marine Science
thread on some groundbreaking new research. on march 14 the The New York Times and Los Angeles Times tweeted their top chocolate chip cookie recipes. we conducted a study to determine which is the superior cookie. full results at bit.ly/cookie-study ! 1/8
An expansive literature has emerged providing recommendations for MPA design. To provide a streamlined approach for practitioners, we created 24 condensed design guidelines grouped by conservation objectives to aid in MPA planning. New in Conservation Science and Practice! conbio.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/cs…
We developed a set of synthesized marine protected area design guidelines to help streamline conservation planning and decision making to achieve desired objectives. Read the paper in Conservation Science and Practice and check out the summary below 🧵conbio.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/cs…
Designing effective marine spatial management strategies is challenging. In a new FishandFisheries publication we present a modeling framework, marlin, that can be used to efficiently simulate the bio-economic dynamics of marine systems. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…
