Can we improve diagnosis #StrepA? shorturl.at/xHCfI We evaluated patients with pharyngitis in the Gambia & found all clinical decision rules performed poorly. Molecular tests detected higher burden #StrepA than culture but are too $ for use in low resource settings.

Is Streptococcus dysgalactiae subp. equisimilis (SDSE) just the poor cousin of S. pyogenes? Although it mostly causes disease in adults, there's actually much clinical and genomic overlap! See our review just out in CMR Steven Tong Mark_Davies_Lab Doherty Institute journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/cm…

How much #StrepA do we miss when assessing impetigo using culture? Answer: a lot Journal of Infectious Diseases shorturl.at/3qM7r In our original study we detected StrepA in 51% of lesions in children at MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM but this increased to 80% using qPCR.
