The width and breadth of allomothering networks demonstrated by Dr Anushé Hassan, using data from our 5-site Evolutionary Demography of Religion project. Mothers get a lot of help, but how much & who helps varies (a bit) across sites #EHBEA2023

More religious practice on the part of mothers is associated with higher fertility and greater allocare from matrilateral kin (but not fathers or patrilateral kin) in the Gambia. Data from the Evolutionary Demography of Religion, presented by John H. Shaver #EHBEA2023

Really enjoyed presenting this work with Rebecca Sear and Erik J. Ringen (and many other awesome collaborators) for the first time today at #EHBEA2023 (in person!)

Proud supervisor moment from today as James Rutter presents some of his thesis data on the question of whether people use voice pitch to assess fighting ability when the body is visible. (Initial answer: surprisingly yes!) #EHBEA2023

Excited for our final plenary Mark Thomas telling us all about the evolution of lactase persistence! #EHBEA2023

Fantastic talk by Mark Thomas on the evolution of lactase persistence in Europe. Compelling evidence to show selection may be driven by famine or pathogen load, rather than dairying traditions. #EHBEA2023

Inspiring talk from David A. Coall about how he incorporates Aboriginal perspectives into his teaching on evolutionary medicine. Involves seeing the world in a different way; it improves research & can help counter pseudoscience #EHBEA2023

A data-driven approach, using UK Biobank data, suggests having kids is associated with faster aging (measured with biomarkers) but lower mortality, at least up to 4 kids (speculative - because of social benefits of having kids?) Alex Alvergne #EHBEA2023

Contraceptive side effects are often dismissed as misperceptions but Rose Stevens suggests they are real & associated with recent infections & poor quality diets, as theory predicts. Maybe we should take them seriously & incorporate them into reproductive healthcare #EHBEA2023

I was very excited to be able to display a poster of our research ‘Why do Grandparents Care?’ during the European Human Behaviour and Evolution Association annual conference EHBEA2023 - UCL London April 18-21st held at University College London. Shantha Karthigesu David A. Coall Edith Cowan University (ECU)

So proud Louis Bachaud from @UniKentSAC and Lille has won the “best student talk” prize at #EHBEA2023! (It also means I’m 2 for 2 as Dr Sarah Myers won the same award in 2016!)

I am deeply honoured to have received the Best Poster award at EHBEA2023 - UCL London April 18-21st mindblowing conference! Many thanks to the jury. 🏆 Go check our work or contact us if BaYaka mothers' activities interest you! #EHBEA2023
