I'm deeply humbled to have the opportunity to lead the school system that shaped who I am today. To every parent, student, educator, school administrator, support staff member, educational partner, I see you.

My husband and I are happy to announce our daughter’s arrival: 12/17/2021. Please welcome Gertrude Hope Raawia Hogshead Alhamyari: Gertie. She is named after both of our grandmothers, Gertrude and Raawia. Hope is because she is born in a pandemic and we need a little extra hope

Such an amazing man, but what I found most inspiring is the joy he brought with him in every fight. Sad to lose that joy: apple.news/A2S2rjujSREC8e…

This is a point that needs to be discussed: Our students minds and hearts are imprisoned in a broken system. Systems need to be dismantled with project based learning, social emotional connections, and time for critical thinking. Our students should not feel squashed or limited.

Agreed. There should not be a conversation about rigor without joy and vice versa. We learn when we are happy. And as a teacher I should have joy in my labor. Isn’t that why we became educators? Because we love our subject, we loved education, we love sharing that joy?

I’ve been told having empathy was the reason I wouldn’t advance in leadership- that I’d remain “good” but not “great.” I disagree- and research is on my side. It’s what has taken me from “good” to GREAT! forbes.com/sites/tracybro…
