I learned from a student this week that Texas students recite a separate pledge of the allegiance to the Texas flag. Did everyone already know this? Wild.

For the record - because several people have asked me abt this story - our dept has not had any meetings discussing internships. And Im happy to help our students find internships in Rep. Moulton's office and every Rep's office, regardless of their political views.

Just spoke with Prof Hersh, who reiterated his commitment to ideological diversity on campus. Hersh told me Moulton’s views don’t “make him out of bounds for our students to go learn from, or have an internship with or for him to come to campus.”

The lovely article about my course at Tufts was the 5th most read article in Boston Mag this year! (If I had included Karen Read content in the syllabus, it might have been #1)

NEW essay by me in Commonwealth (CommonWealth Beacon): Newton MA recently cut funding for buses to private schools. Almost all families affected, including mine, are in religious schools. Newton's decision is wrong. It should fund the buses. Here's my argument: commonwealthbeacon.org/opinion/ending…

“If a community like Newton, with all of its wealth and resources, will still throw religious families under the bus, so to speak, religious families and their allies should get organized for statewide action.” From my new essay commonwealthbeacon.org/opinion/ending…

Heading out this afternoon from freezing Boston to snowy Virginia for this AI event. Among the many topics covered, I'm very interested to think about effect of AI on civic engagement and the role of the mass public in shaping AI policy.

Ian Coss Ian Coss had a great podcast about the Big Dig in 2023. Now he has another series, this one about the state lottery. I can't say enough good things abt his work. An absolute treasure to MA, to journalism. It's an education in political complexity and moral trade-offs.

i have taken a minor dive in productivity today because of the amount of time i've spent thinking about Abreu's throw last night.

I second this. RCV politics are so odd. It's basically going after the part of voting that people find hardest - figuring out who to vote for - and making specifically that part harder. And the research is clear there is basically no upside to doing this.
