Georgia: The politically motivated persecution & arrests of opposition leaders go against basic democratic values. These are authoritarian tactics, opposite of what is expected from an EU candidate country. Georgian Dream must stop weaponising the justice system.

Georgian authorities have once again turned to repression, arresting multiple opposition leaders in recent days. Jailing pro-European politicians only pushes 🇬🇪 further from its 🇪🇺 path. The political persecution must end. Georgian Dream must release all political prisoners now.

The second activist has been sentenced to 5 years in prison solely for loving Georgia and fighting for its Euro-Atlantic future. No evidence was presented in court to show his involvement in any crime. Putin’s playbook in action !
