One of Georgia’s most beloved poets, Zviad Ratiani, was arrested today at a peaceful protest. No one is safe : poets, doctors, teachers, activists are being detained by Ivanishvili’s regime for defending Georgia’s European future.

Is the free world really so weak that it is unable to do anything to support the Georgian people in their efforts to resist the establishment of a dictatorship in this small South Caucasian country? Authoritarian regimes and the ‘useful idiots’ who serve them will only gain more

🔴 Arrest of opposition leaders shows Georgia’s ruling regime fully chose authoritarianism. 60+ prisoners of conscience. Courts & prosecutors turned into political tools. Civil society & media under attack. We won’t give up! Georgia will not become Russia! 🇬🇪 Full joint

Georgia: The politically motivated persecution & arrests of opposition leaders go against basic democratic values. These are authoritarian tactics, opposite of what is expected from an EU candidate country. Georgian Dream must stop weaponising the justice system.

Georgian authorities have once again turned to repression, arresting multiple opposition leaders in recent days. Jailing pro-European politicians only pushes 🇬🇪 further from its 🇪🇺 path. The political persecution must end. Georgian Dream must release all political prisoners now.

Day 209 of 🇬🇪 protests for the country’s Euro-Atlantic future. We urgently need international attention. Activists, journalists, and politicians are being imprisoned. Anyone who dares to speak out risks criminal charges. The 🇪🇺&🇺🇸 risk losing a long-standing partner in the region

Thank you, Marta Kos, for your support. Georgia needs more targeted action against those responsible for democratic backsliding in our country.

"Sentencing and detaining democratic opposition leaders in Georgia is not justice, it's a pattern of repression. Badri Japaridze, Mamuka Khazaradze, Zurab Japaridze, Nika Melia, Nika Gvaramia, Irakli Okruashvili and many others detained deserve their freedom, now." -Sen. Jeanne Shaheen

🇺🇸 U.S. Senators Shaheen & Wicker, in a joint statement, condemn Georgian Dream’s escalating crackdown on civil society: Demanding vast personal data from CSOs & arresting opposition leaders, this is not democracy. 🔗 shorturl.at/etlZ1

"Simply put, democratic governments should not view organizations supporting independent media, combatting Kremlin propaganda, fighting corruption or supporting women and youth to be threats," said Sen.

The second activist has been sentenced to 5 years in prison solely for loving Georgia and fighting for its Euro-Atlantic future. No evidence was presented in court to show his involvement in any crime. Putin’s playbook in action !
